A cheeky trip to Sicily? Heading north to Byron or Noosa? Or maybe you need to take a business trip to Melbourne or New York.
Have you thought about the jewellery you might like to travel with?
We adorn ourselves with jewels and gemstones for some very specific reasons. For some, it is a fashion statement, an extension of their fashion choices. For others, certain pieces of jewellery are treasured memories from loved ones and sometimes they are gifts to ourselves marking special occasions and milestones in our lives.
The personal value we place on some of our jewellery can be an important determining factor in making decisions about what pieces we can take on our adventures.
Questions to yourself when picking the pieces you want to take along:
Editing your jewellery pieces that you travel with can make your trip a more relaxed experience.
If you are the kind of person who rotates several cherished pieces of jewellery it poses a risk of being lost, or god forbid, stolen from hotel rooms. Paring back pieces and leaving very special pieces at home will free your mind from relying on hotel safes. When I travel I tend to leave all the important pieces at home, and travel with a few stylish pieces. More on that later.
You may also want to consider the fact that certain large pieces of valuable jewellery might attract the unwanted attention of thieves, placing you and your jewellery in a dangerous situation.
Lastly, what kind of trip are you embarking on ? If it is an adventure with lots of camping, hiking and time in the great outdoors then taking jewellery makes very little sense. But if you are on a trip to Paris to soak in the culture and the amazing shopping then of course some beautiful stylish pieces would be perfect. If a relaxing spa stay for a few days is on the cards then you may want to take just one or two pieces to wear once you have indulged in the massages and body treatments.
I tend to wear a simple pair of gold hoops or huggies and pack my diamond stud earrings. I also bring along three stack rings and perhaps a pendant necklace for a little night time sparkle. I keep these hidden away in the room or in a room safe.
When I am on the move I put jewellery pouches in my hand luggage, or stuffed into a toiletries bag. Thankfully jewellery takes up a small space!
Of course you can always treat yourself to a special piece of jewellery as a memento of your travels
